Weekend for Water 2016

OREGON - Oregon Wild and Oregon Environmental Council are proud to announce the Weekend for Water campaign January 28th, 30-31st, 2016. As part of a campaign to promote the connection between clean water and Oregon’s flourishing craft beer industry, the two environmental groups have partnered with twelve craft breweries across the state for a multi-day event. A portion of weekend proceeds from all of the participating breweries will be donated to support the water quality and conservation work of Oregon Wild and OEC.

“Oregonians depend on pristine waterways for clean drinking water, recreation, habitat for native fish and wildlife, and for the craft beer that has made Oregon an icon in the industry,” said Marielle Cowdin, Oregon Wild Outreach Coordinator. “We launched the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance initiative last April to work with locals in the brewing community towards further protection of our forest watersheds, and we’re excited to extend that work in partnership with the Oregon Environmental Council.”

“OEC and Oregon Wild make great partners because we agree: the secret to protecting Oregon's iconic waterways is knowing that everyone, in every walk of life, has a role to play,” said Samantha Murray, OEC Water Program Director. “This weekend, breweries and beer drinkers alike have a chance to let their love for Oregon's amazing and unique waterways show.”

Oregonians consistently rank water as a top environmental priority. Oregon has more rivers designated as wild and scenic than any other state. People travel from across the nation to raft our wild waters and fish for salmon or trout. We depend on clean and plentiful water as does our wildlife and local businesses, especially craft breweries.

Festivities will kick off Thursday, January 28th at the Ninkasi Brewing Tasting Room in Eugene with a special “Pints for a Cause” event from 12-9 p.m. Members of the public are encouraged to visit participating breweries to celebrate and support great Oregon beer and the water conservation efforts of Oregon Wild and OEC at the following locations:

About Oregon Wild and Oregon Environmental Council:
For over 40 years, both Oregon Wild and OEC have worked to protect Oregon’s waterways. From safeguarding Portland’s drinking water in the Bull Run/Little Sandy forest watersheds (Oregon Wild) to creating a statewide community-based Pesticide Stewardship Program to measure and reduce pesticides in our waters (OEC), both Oregon Wild and OEC are leading voices for common-sense conservation of our waters and the fish and wildlife that call them home.
