Ochoco Mountains Snowshoe Hike
Come out to the Ochocos to see the exceptionally orange Ponderosa pines under a snowy backdrop.
Distance: 4.5 miles
Elevation Gain: ~300 feet
Leader: Sarah Cuddy
Location: Walton Lake Snowpark in the Ochoco National Forest (carpools depart from Bend)
An easy-moderate loop with stunning views along the way. Starting out on flat ground, we will snowshoe through towering orange old-growth Ponderosa pine and fir forests. We will then gradually climb along a ridge with continuous sweeping views east into the Mitchell Valley, and arrive at the top of a ridge with views looking west. We will break at the scenic overlook before dropping down to Walton Lake, where we will wrap along the edge of the lake and continue back to the trailhead.
