April is shaping up to be a great month to celebrate Earth Day with all sorts of events and actions to take to support Oregon’s wildlands, wildlife, and waters - plus you might be getting in some final turns on the mountain or getting your garden started (depending on your priorities!). All that activity might have you wishing for a tasty beverage to relax with - preferably one that has environmental benefits. That’s where the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance comes in!
The Oregon Brewshed® Alliance is a coalition of brewing businesses and community partners who understand the value of clean water and protected forest watersheds. Oregon Wild created the Brewshed Alliance in 2015 as a way for the craft brewing industry who support our work to do so in a tangible way. Over the years, dozens of brewing industry partners have helped put on 7 different Oregon Brewshed® Brewfests in Portland and Eugene; raised over $60,000 to support conservation work; donated beer, cider, and kombucha to Oregon Wild fundraiser and other events; supported efforts to protect new Wilderness areas, State Scenic Waterways, Wild & Scenic Rivers, and reform logging laws to better protect streams by signing letters to elected officials, placing ads, and penning opinion pieces; and hosting more pint-nights, tap-takeovers, and presentations for the public than we can count.
This month, we’re excited that we’ve launched a new Brewshed® Alliance website , but even better, several of our brewery partners are hosting fundraising events and releasing special benefit brews for Earth Day. We hope you can join us, bring a friend for happy hour, and stock up on great beer and cider - all to support Oregon Wild’s work to protect our wild landscapes and waterways! Remember, great beer doesn’t start at the tap – great beer begins with clean water.
