Welcoming our new Bend intern!

Kelby

Hi, I am Kelby! I just recently joined Oregon Wild as the Ochoco Mountains Outreach and Stewardship Intern for the 2019 summer. Coming from Colorado, I grew up outdoors and have fostered a love for nature which has pushed me to pursue a career in conservation. This passion for conservation work has come from my love of animals and nature that I have had my entire life.

I just recently graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in environmental science and, soon after, moved to Oregon. During my college career, I had the unique opportunity to study abroad in Chiang Mai, Thailand where I was learning about local land and water conservation. This really opened my eyes to the world of environmental management and is another reason for my push towards conservation work. This experience pushed me to get outside of the classroom and connect with the outdoors and I would love to encourage others to do the same as it was a very influential experience.

Although I am a new Bend resident, I have been coming to Oregon all my life and love to be outside enjoying the beautiful places this state has to offer. I am an avid windsurfer and kiter out on the Columbia River Gorge, but also love to hike, mountain bike and camp amongst the trees. Being outdoors is where I am happiest, so Bend is a great fit!

I am excited to be a part of the Oregon Wild team for this summer and help connect the community with important issues our environment is facing. I am very eager to learn more about conservation advocacy and work towards protection of wildlands, wildlife and water. Oregon Wild is such an awesome organization, doing such great work, and I am lucky to have the chance to be a part of it!
