Coast Range Forests Winter Hike

Visit old-growth forests, regenerated forests, and young plantations to see the different impacts these forests have on water and salmon habitat - with a brief talk about what some landowners are doing to repair forests damaged in the past!

Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 4 miles
Elevation Gain: 300 feet
Leader: Jason Gonzales
Location: Walton, Oregon Coast Range (carpools depart from Eugene)

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. On this unique hike, we will visit private and public lands in the Oregon Coast Range to get a visual comparison of the difference between young tree farms and mature, diverse forests. Your hike leader will talk about the differences as we walk, specifically looking at the impacts past logging has had on streams. We will also see work being done to restore forests damaged by Oregon's clearcutting legacy in a young tree farm.
