"A Girl's Guide to the Wild" book release benefit

Join us for a special book release event for author (and Oregon Wild supporter) Ruby McConnell's new book "A Girl's Guide to the Wild," the definitive outdoor guide for adventure seeking girls! Ruby will be joined by Chandra LeGue of Oregon Wild for an evening of fundraising for Oregon Wild’s new "Wild Women" campaign, designed to engage and empower women in environmental advocacy and the outdoors. Learn about the program from Chandra, and hear Ruby discuss her new book and read from her environmental work.

Ruby McConnell is a writer, geologist, and adventuress whose work focuses on nature, the environment, and the relationship between landscape and the human experience. Her experiences as a researcher, activist, and explorer in the wildlands of the western United States led her to write A Woman’s Guide to the Wild- the definitive outdoor guide for anyone who identifies as, or loves, women (or just wants to learn how to read a map). Ruby believes that positive outdoor experiences are the key to healthy living and protecting the environment and is committed to breaking down barriers that prevent all kinds of people from being outside.

Chandra LeGue has been with Oregon Wild for over 15 years and has led over 100 public hikes. She is the author of a forthcoming book about hiking in Oregon’s ancient forests, and has camped many nights and hiked hundreds of miles in researching the book. (Ruby's books, if they were out when she was younger and hadn't already learned to do this through trial and error, would have helped her prepare for all this!) She's no stranger to being one of the only women at the table or on a field trip in her advocacy work, which is why she's excited to team up with, celebrate, and empower other women to get outdoors and involved in the conservation field.
