Table Rock Wilderness Hike

Journey to the headwaters of the Molalla River and explore the unique basalt formations of the Table Rock Wilderness.

Difficulty: Moderate-Plus
Distance: 7.6 miles
Elevation Gain: 1,500 feet
Leader: Jonathan Jelen
Location: Table Rock Wilderness, Salem BLM

The Table Rock area outside of Molalla is a hidden wilderness gem. Designated in 1984, the Table Rock Wilderness shelters the headwaters of the Molalla River (soon to be designated as a Wild & Scenic River, fingers crossed).

The area has seen its fair share of volcanic activity and the basalt formations that form the jagged rocks are quite a sight to behold. Speaking of sights, the breathtaking views from atop Rooster Rock and Table Rock allow hikers to see up to ten of the Cascade peaks, including nearby Mt. Jefferson.

The namesake of the Table Rock Wilderness features a fortress-shaped plateau above the Molalla watershed and views of up to ten Cascade and Coast Range peaks. In addition to defending the Table Rock Wilderness from "Logging without Laws" rollbacks, Oregon Wild (as part of the Molalla River Alliance) is working to protect the Molalla River as a Wild & Scenic River in order to protect the wildlife habitat, world-class recreation opportunities, and clean water it provides.
