Protect Our Forests and Communities
Urge your senators to protect our forests, climate, and communities by rejecting harmful provisions in the Farm Bill!
You may not think the Farm Bill has much to do with forests. Unfortunately, some politicians are using this important bill intended to focus on agriculture and nutrition to sneak anti-environmental provisions into law. Right now, critical programs designed to protect forests, wildlife, clean energy, and public health are at risk of being slashed or weakened by damaging provisions in the current bill.
The version of H.R. 8467 recently passed by the House Committee on Agriculture includes troubling provisions that:
- Threaten our forests by allowing massive exemptions to environmental reviews, disregarding science, and undermining critical safeguards like the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
- Rollback pesticide regulations that protect local communities, families, and children.
- Divert funding away from climate-smart agriculture and forestry and reallocate critical resources to unproven programs that do little to mitigate climate change.
- Limit clean energy efforts in rural communities and redefine “renewable biomass” to include products that increase greenhouse gas emissions.
- Restrict states’ rights to establish and enforce standards that protect food safety, animal welfare, and environmental quality.
Our forests, climate, and health deserve better than this harmful piece of legislation.
Please contact your senators today and urge them to oppose these provisions in the Farm Bill!
