Support Historic Wildlife and Habitat Funding
State and regional decision-makers are considering whether they should endorse a proposal that would provide critical funds to protect Oregon’s rich natural legacy. Hearing from you is essential in securing their support.
There are over 300 native Oregon species and many habitats they depend upon in decline – bats, martens, salmon, frogs and salamanders, birds, and whales. They all need our help.
Oregon has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pass landmark legislation that would combat the extinction crisis, support Oregon’s rich biodiversity, and do something good for tourism and the healthy environment that fuels it. But it’s going to take all of us, speaking up, urging our elected officials to prioritize this legislation.
Oregon is defined by our snow-capped mountains, roaring rivers, majestic forests, rugged coastline, and, of course, enchanting wildlife. These features are also huge drivers of our outdoor recreation and tourism economy. People come from all over to enjoy these splendors. While we want them to continue to visit, we must also invest and protect vulnerable wildlife and their habitats now and for future generations.
That’s why we’re working hard to get legislation passed in 2026! Known as “1% for Wildlife” in the 2025 session (HB 2977), our proposal would raise the state lodging tax from 1.5% to 2.75% to protect biodiversity and the environment. Though we don’t have a bill number yet for the 2026 session, we’re already hard at work soliciting support from the Metro regional government and advocating for the bill in the state legislature.
We can’t do this without you. Please take action today and help us pass this bold, proactive bill to invest in the reason so many visitors travel to Oregon.
