Location: Mount Hood National Forest
The southeast side of Mount Hood offers wildflower meadows, a diverse mix of forest types, grand views from rocky outcrops, and a legacy of both wilderness protection efforts and extensive logging. Oregon Wild challenged the proposed Grasshopper Project last year, which would have logged 5,000 acres including mature forests needed in our fight against climate change. On this outing, we’ll explore some of the forests that are a part of the proposed timber sale and climb up Rocky Butte, where a lookout platform once graced a large Ponderosa pine. Even without the platform, there is a commanding view from here of whole project area, the Badger Creek Wilderness, and Mount Hood.
Carpools will be available from Portland.

- Only one registration is allowed per person. To sign up other members of your party or a minor, please complete another registration.
- Please note: Some people have trouble completing the registration using a cell phone. Please use a computer to register if possible. You will know your registration went through if you get a confirmation email.
- Details such as exact times, meeting locations, and carpool possibilities will be sent after registration.
- Oregon Wild does not allow dogs (unless a certified service animal), intoxicants, or firearms on guided hikes.
- Kids are welcome on Oregon Wild hikes, so long as they are accompanied by an adult.
