Demand Action for Oregon’s Forest Habitat
Oregon’s forests and rivers need you. Governor Kotek’s budget fails to fund the Private Forest Accord, putting clean water, salmon, and forest protections at risk. Tell legislators: a deal is a deal—fully fund the $36 million needed to protect our watersheds. Take action today!
Oregon’s forest watersheds are invaluable to our state. These rivers, originating in forestlands, provide drinking water for millions of Oregonians, serve as precious habitat for salmon and other wildlife, and offer endless joy and inspiration for those who explore our outdoors.
Caring for these watersheds is a shared responsibility, whether they’re on public or private lands. While public lands often have stronger protections, private lands play an integral role too. That’s why Oregon Wild and our allies fought to pass stronger environmental safeguards under the Private Forest Accord.
But here’s the challenge: these critical reforms need funding to succeed. While logging companies cover part of the cost, the State of Oregon must also contribute to ensure essential research and habitat restoration. Without these matching funds, the progress we’ve made is at risk.
Unfortunately, Governor Tina Kotek’s proposed budget for 2025 ignores this commitment, relying on new hurdles and accounting tricks instead of funding these protections outright. Now, it’s up to the Oregon legislature to honor the deal and fully fund the $36 million needed for the Private Forest Accord in the 2025-2027 budget.
We need your help to make sure legislators follow through. Tell them that clean water, healthy salmon runs, and thriving forests aren’t optional—they’re essential. A deal is a deal, and Oregon’s forests and rivers are counting on us to keep it.
Take action today to demand full funding for these watershed protections. Together, we can safeguard the progress we’ve made and ensure a healthier future for Oregon’s forests, rivers, and communities.
