Location: Central Coast, Siuslaw National Forest
This loop hike climbs from the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center to Cook’s Ridge through an ancient Sitka spruce and Douglas-fir forest, highlighting the many stages, species, and layers of vegetation that come with it. The trail then descends to follow lovely Gwynn Creek, which has been proposed for Wild and Scenic River status through the River Democracy Act. The trail concludes on the Oregon Coast Trail, where we’ll see and hear the ocean from the shaded forest.
