Our forests are under threat again, this time from the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026. Unfortunately, this bill recently passed the House of Representatives. Now the Senate needs to hear about how bad this bill is.
The Farm Bill is best known for providing food assistance to needy families (which has been dramatically scaled back to pay for tax cuts), crop insurance, disaster relief, and funding for agricultural research. With energy and food prices rising as a result of the war with Iran, there is growing pressure for this bill to pass.
And that means key legislators are using it to force through terrible policy.
The Farm Bill that passed the House contains numerous anti-environmental riders that will further undermine conservation and forest management, including new loopholes for logging and dismantling of wildlife protections. The bill also grants even greater discretion to the Trump administration to exploit our forests and public lands.
Now is not the time to hand the Trump administration more power to degrade our public lands, especially given the deluge of attacks on transparency, accountability, and scientific integrity.
Please join us in calling on our Senators to reject this harmful version of the Farm Bill and instead develop legislation that protects both our environment and our most vulnerable neighbors.
