Sea otter by Lilian Carswell (USFWS)

Did you know that “Elakha” (ee-LAK-uh) is the Chinook trading language word for sea otter? The Elakha Alliance, founded in 2018, brings together tribal, nonprofit, and conservation leaders with one powerful vision: an Oregon coast where future generations thrive alongside a restored sea otter population and a healthy, resilient marine ecosystem.

In this webinar, Chanel Hason, the Elakha Alliance’s Director of Outreach and Community Relations, shares the incredible story of sea otters in Oregon. Explore their history, their cultural significance to Oregon’s coastal Tribes, and the exciting efforts underway to reintroduce these keystone species to our nearshore waters. Oregon Wild is proud to partner with the Elakha Alliance in this inspiring mission.

Watch to learn how restoring sea otters can help transform Oregon’s marine environment for generations to come. Don’t miss this deep dive into conservation, culture, and hope for the future.
