Fall River Hike

July 27, 2024

Hike along the cold waters and clear pools of the Fall River in Deschutes National Forest.

Group of hikers along Fall River in Deschutes National Forest, Oregon by Oregon Wild

Difficulty: Moderate
Distance (round trip/total): 6.1 miles
Elevation Gain: 187 feet
Leader: Sami Godlove, Central Oregon Field Associate
Location : Sunriver, Deschutes National Forest

The Fall River is a spring-fed stream that winds through old-growth ponderosa pine forest until joining the Deschutes River near Sunriver in Central Oregon. With its crystal-clear, cold water and adjacent old-growth forest, the Fall River provides important habitat for fish and wildlife species. This out-and-back hike follows the river to its headwaters which, seemingly out of nowhere, ‘spring’ from the ground. The Fall River and its many recreational, ecological, and aesthetic values are proposed to be protected in the River Democracy Act.
