We couldn’t have passed Oregon’s most significant wildlife conservation bill without the leadership and support of many Oregon legislators, who, against difficult odds, advocated fiercely for this bill. Because of their efforts, Oregon’s most vulnerable fish, wildlife, and the habitats that sustain us all have a fighting chance.
Please take a moment to send them a thank-you note, expressing your gratitude for passing HB 4134.
While I wish every good wildlife bill got a 100% scorecard, the reality is that a minority of legislators actively worked to stop this bill. If that happens to be your elected official, it’s important we let them know we’re disappointed. Please take a moment to send them a note, expressing your disappointment and encouraging them to support our native wildlife in the future.
As Governor Kotek wrote in her signing statement, “Protecting Oregon’s natural lands and wildlife is not separate from economic prosperity – it is foundational to it.” From tufted puffins on the coast to Sierra Nevada red foxes in the Central Cascades and over to the lone wolverine in the Wallowas, Oregon’s charismatic and cherished wildlife will be better off with the passage of HB 4134.
