Historic Wildlife Funding Passes!
Big news for Oregon wildlife! The Oregon Senate passed HB 4134, the “1.25% for Wildlife” bill. The bill had previously passed the Oregon House of Representatives with bipartisan support and now heads to Governor Tina Kotek’s desk to be signed into law.
HB 4134 was supported by a broad coalition of conservation, hunting, fishing, forestry, farming, ranching, and business stakeholders. Public testimony has been overwhelmingly in favor of the bill, with over 84% in support.
Several Oregon Brewshed® Alliance breweries signed on in support of this proposal and provided public testimony, which made a huge difference. Thank you to pFreim, Breakside, Ninkasi, Binary, Falling Sky, Level, Great Frontier, Coleman, YCH and the many other alliance members who supported this historic campaign!
You’re Invited to the First Annual Oregon Brewshed® Alliance Summit!
Join Oregon Wild, pFriem Family Brewers, and other alliance members for the first-ever Oregon Brewshed® Alliance Summit!
Date: Wednesday April 1st (the day before Oregon Beer Awards)
Time: 3pm – 6pm
Where: pFriem Milwaukie’s upstairs library (10722 SE Main Street, downtown Milwaukie)
Whether you were a charter member of the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance back in 2015 or just want to help protect the #1 ingredient in all your favorite beers (spoiler alert: it’s clean water), we’d love to have you join us!
Food and beer will be generously provided by our friends at pFriem. The Summit will be a chance for us all to gather, to talk through shared goals and values around conservation, and discuss several topics including:
- The State of the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance and all that we’ve accomplished together.
- Current threats to our clean water, forested watersheds, and public lands.
- Updates from breweries including how you’re navigating the current socio-economic climate, opportunities to elevate Brewshed partner voices for conservation, and other shared values.
All are welcome to this free event. Ultimately, it’s an opportunity for the brewery community to come together around our shared responsibility to defend clean water and talk through RSVP here.
Action Item: Speak Up For Roadless Areas
Over 45 million acres of wild public lands across the country, and two million acres in Oregon, are at risk of losing key protections from the proposed rescission of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule. This includes beloved places like Lost Lake, Tumalo Mountain, the headwaters of the McKenzie River, and Newberry Crater. Losing Roadless Rule protections means these places would be at risk of being opened up to roadbuilding, commercial logging, and development.
Oregon Wild and partners helped generate 600,000+ public comments supporting the Roadless Rule protections last year. Now, we need to show that Oregon businesses support protecting these special wild places too! So we’re asking all Oregon Brewshed® Alliance partners to sign this letter that will be sent to Oregon’s congressional delegation, urging them to support protections for these threatened public lands.
Please read and sign on to the letter here.
