Clear Lake Bird Walk

April 26, 2025
Roughly 9:00am to 4:00pm

Clear Lake, Willamette National Forest

Clear Lake by Larrie Easterly

Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 3 miles total
Elevation Gain: 200 feet
Leader: Chandra LeGue (Oregon Wild’s Senior Conservation Advocate) and Pat Boleyn (educator & birding guide)
Location: Willamette National Forest near Santiam Pass

Fed by lava-filtered glacial melt-water, Clear Lake is one of Oregon’s most spectacular geological features and the source of the McKenzie River. It’s also a great place to bird watch! On this walk for all levels of birders we’ll be joined by bird educator Pat Boleyn and look for ducks on the lake, snag-dwelling woodpeckers, migrating song-birds, and nesting ospreys. We’ll learn about why it’s important to have protected bird habitat, and the basics of identifying some of our wildlife friends!

Carpools will be available from Eugene and Springfield.

The goal of Oregon Wild’s outdoor program is to connect our supporters to the places we work to protect and conserve. Our guided hikes and outings are led by staff members with experience in our conservation campaigns, knowledge about the natural world, and a passion for Oregon’s wild places and wildlife. Our programs offer an educational experience and a connection to advocacy for the places we visit. We strive to make our outdoor programs inviting and safe for everyone.
